It's important to understand that UKARA is not a licence, and you do not need a UKARA membership to play airsoft. Instead, UKARA registration is one of several recognised ways of demonstrating that you have a valid defence for purchasing a realistic airsoft gun. To become UKARA registered, players typically need to be 18 or over and regularly attend insured airsoft skirmish sites, meeting the site's registration requirements before applying. If you don't yet qualify for a valid defence, you can still purchase a two-tone airsoft gun, which is ideal for beginners entering the sport. Irish Airsoft Regulation
Airsoft is a popular and well-regulated sport in Ireland, with clear legal requirements designed to ensure safe and responsible participation. In addition, all airsoft guns sold and used in Ireland must have a muzzle energy of less than 1 Joule. Any airsoft gun exceeding this limit is not classified as an airsoft device and may fall under Irish firearms legislation. This 1 Joule power limit applies to all types of airsoft guns, including AEGs (Automatic Electric Guns), gas blowback pistols, gas rifles, CO₂-powered models, and spring-powered airsoft guns.
