The hop-up is one of the most important features of any airsoft gun, directly affecting its accuracy, range, and consistency. A hop-up unit applies a small amount of backspin to the 6mm airsoft BB as it leaves the barrel. This backspin creates lift, allowing the BB to travel further and with a flatter trajectory than it would without hop-up. Correctly adjusting your hop-up can dramatically improve your shooting performance, whether you're using an AEG, GBB pistol, GBB rifle, or sniper rifle.
To set your hop-up, fire a few shots at a target around 30–40 metres away and gradually adjust the hop-up until the BB flies straight with a gentle upward curve at the end of its flight. If the BB drops quickly, increase the hop-up slightly. If it climbs sharply into the air, reduce the adjustment. The ideal setting will vary depending on the BB weight you are using, with heavier BBs typically requiring more hop-up. Upgrading your hop-up rubber (bucking) or inner barrel can further improve accuracy and consistency.
